On Saturday, September 12, 2015, Misel Disel proudly supported the Universal Kidney Foundation's Knock Out Kidney Disease Charity Event in Flint, MI. The event raised money and awareness by featuring exhibition bouts consisting of professional boxers Chris Byrd, Anthony Dirrell, Andre Dirrell, and Olympic Gold Medalist Claressa Shields and others.
The Universal Kidney Foundation was founded in 2008 in response to the need for providing assistance to patients with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) and kidney related illnesses in Flint, Michigan and greater Genesee County. The economic impact due to the loss of jobs in the area, resulting in loss of insurance coverage and benefits, and high costs of medical expense made it difficult for many patients to adequately access treatment and various related healthcare services. There was simply a lack of resources in the area to help bridge the gap in services. Many patients found themselves unable to get to/from dialysis, unable to afford necessary medication and equipment for health maintenance, and some even without the basic essentials such as food, shelter and utilities. UKF is a resource for many patients in these types of situations and through these services.
The Universal Kidney Foundation is committed to raise awareness of kidney disease, and its prevention and treatment in Genesee County and its surrounding communities. We work with many community partners to educate the public about kidney disease, provide resources and services for those in need, and raise funds to meet those needs. Through research and innovative programs, UKF will promote better treatment options, and be a resource for education & awareness of Chronic Kidney disease.
